Private boat liability: Law change in Italy requires higher insurance cover amounts

Anyone who plans to sail with their own boat along the coast of Italy or within the country this year should first check the insured amount of their liability insurance: A new regulation has increased the minimum cover for boats in Italy to EUR 2.5 million for personal injury and EUR 500,000 for property damage.
Anyone who plans to sail with their own boat through Italy or along the coast this year should first check the insured amount of their liability insurance and adjust it if required. Because of an amendment, the prescribed minimum cover increased at the start of the year to EUR 2.5 million for personal injury and EUR 500,000 for property damage, irrespective of the number of claimants. In Italy, liability insurance is a legal requirement for sailing and motor boats, even if they are only transported or stored within the country’s borders.
